Responsibilities:

• Develop the design system for biology/life-sciences user interfaces


• Lead and create the design process for developing Biology/Life sciences interfaces


• Partner with product managers and engineering to balance technical, business, and customer requirements while applying a user-centric design approach


• Collaborate with Operations, Marketing & Product Development to select, prioritize, and develop user personae


• Consult with clients and potential customers to understand their needs, objectives


• Create storyboards, user stories, wireframes, and screen flows to inform software development at a level of detail that informs test acceptance criteria


• Analyze user feedback and activity, and then iterate designs to enhance user experience


• Conduct usability testing on software interfaces developed by Lifesciences Customer


• Research adjacent solutions and benchmark against relevant user interface

Requirements:

• 5+ years professional experience designing for desktop and mobile products


• Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or certification in a related field such as UX/UI, graphic design, human computer interfaces


• Expert fluency in commonly used design tools such as Sketch, InVision and Adobe CS (particularly XD)


• Hands-on experience producing user requirements, storyboards, wireframes, scenarios, flowcharts, design prototypes, and design specifications


• Experience in an agile environment working closely with Product and Dev teams

• Ability to clearly and effectively present and communicate design processes, ideas, and solutions to teams and customer


• Sees the world from a customer-first perspective

• Solid graphic design ability, strong design communication skills and desire to work as part of a team...our team needs to inspire each other and make the “ordinary” projects extraordinary by showing how passionate we are about good design

• Experience conducting and coordinating remote and in-person user research using a variety of methodologies, and documenting the results and findings


• Past experience designing e-commerce web interfaces


• Past experience leading usability testing and iterating designs based on results


• Past experience creating designs that formed basis for acceptance testing/SQA

Ideal Candidate will have:

• Background in biological sciences, life sciences data applications, either from education or work experience


• Background in data analytics, data management


• Past experience as front-end designer


• Past experience designing/using oligo design tools (e.g. TwistBio, IDT, NimbleGen, etc.)


• Online portfolio of past work with example wireframes, layout boards, example design system


• Able to communicate how past challenges were overcome with designing interfaces and creating design systems


• Familiarity with Adobe XD, UXPin Merge, React.js
